Why do African mothers put pressure on ladies to get married?

It is no longer news how marriage is seen as a number one priority for women however, why do African mothers have to be extra when it comes to putting pressure on ladies to get married? It gets interesting when they extend this act to not just their daughter but also to their daughter’s friends.
